Vitamix 5200 vs 5300 Blender

We’re going to do a pretty in-depth comparison so by the end, you should have everything you need to choose the right Vitamix blender.

If you don’t, please scold me in the comments section. I’m open to your critique.

Container Sizes And Countertop Space

Both containers are 64 ounces and are perfectly capable of making large batches of soups and smoothies for the whole family.

The key difference here is the Vitamix 5200 has a tall skyscraper-like container, while the Vitamix 5300 is wider and shorter.

Why should you care?

The Vitamix 5300 has no problems fitting into most cabinets and shelves with the container lid on. But you might not be so lucky with the 5200.

If you’re someone who likes to put their appliances away after using them, the Vitamix 5200 might not fit with the classic container lid.

  • The total height of the 5200 with the lid is about 20.5 inches tall.
  • The total height of the 5300 with the lid is about 17.25 inches tall.

The Vitamix 5300 wins when it comes to counterspace. It’s low-profile container allows it to fit inside cabinets and on shelves compared to the Vitamix 5200.

Speed Settings

The settings are nearly identical, however, the Vitamix 5300 has a pulse switch and the 5200 doesn’t.

The pulse feature allows you to make things with a more chunky consistency. This isn’t a huge deal breaker because you can take the Vitamix 5200 and flip the switch on and off to simulate the pulse setting.

If you’re someone who uses the pulse setting frequently than the Vitamix 5300 might be a better option.

Both blenders use a variable speed dial that gives you more control over texture.

Lower speeds produce more chunky consistencies while high speeds liquify.

The low speeds are great for things like hummus, nut butters, and frozen desserts.

The high speeds work well for soups, smoothies and sauces.

The Vitamix 5300 has a pulse setting better for making things of chunkier consistencies. The 5200 does not have a pulse setting.

Noise

The following video is a noise test of the Vitamix Total Nutrition Center, which is identical to the Vitamix 5200. Just branded differently.

On the lowest speed setting, such as 1 or 2, both blenders won’t wake anyone up early in the morning.

If you crank the variable speed control to high, both sound like a jet engine going off in your kitchen.

But hey, that’s to be expected. It is a blender after all.

What’s odd to me is that even though the Vitamix 5300 has more horsepower, it’s quieter than the Vitamix 5200 blender.

Both are pretty loud on the highest setting. However, the 5300 makes slightly less noise. Low settings for both won’t wake anyone up in the morning.

Cleanup

Cleanup is virtually identical for both blenders. They use something called an “Easy Cleaning” system.

All you have to do is pour some water into the container with a little bit of dish soap and turn the blender on high.

Let it run for 60 seconds, dump the water out in the sink, dry the container and your good to go.

All in all, it took me a grand total of 2 minutes to clean.

Clean up for both machines takes only 2 minutes.

Vitamix 5200 vs 5300 Final Verdict

The Vitamix 5300 is the new and improved version of the 5200 Vitamix model.

While the 5300 is more powerful, has a pulse function and fits under kitchen counters easier, the Vitamix 5200 has the same 64 oz capacity and is more durable.

If you value counter space and want a pulse function, try the Vitamix 5300 blender.

If you want identical performance and a more durable blender, buy the Vitamix 5200.
